Justin Verlander is happy today
HAPPY OPENING DAY to all the MLB players who are getting a raise this season, which is nearly every player that isn’t in the decline of his career. Justin Verlander gets a raise today. He made $28 million in 2015. He’ll start making $28 million again today…but he’ll also now have 10 years of MLB service! That means a fully vested pension plan, which will pay $200k a year at 62 with full health care. Let’s say the guy runs through the $200 million or so he’ll earn in his MLB career, he’ll still have something to fall back on.
Numbers from @SportsTaxMan:
During the 2016
#MLB season Bartolo Colon will pass the $100M mark in career on field earnings.
