Yes…The NCAA Is Giving Basketball Players Free Wi-Fi At Tournament Hotels

Can’t say the NCAA goons are slave drivers any longer. They’re splurging this year on FREE Wi-Fi during the tourney for student-athletes at ALL of the team hotels. The NCAA and CBS/TBS/TNT/TruTV signed a 14-year, $10.8 billion deal in 2011 that will run through 2024. It’s unclear where the NCAA (@InsidetheNCAA) found the money for free Wi-Fi, but you have to credit these guys with stepping up for the student-athletes.
The NCAA really came through this year. It wasn’t always the case. There was a time when student-athletes were ruled ineligible for getting benefits like room service/and or free internet at a hotel. You know, because getting a meal here and there, or free hotel Wi-Fi might cause an athlete to go off the rails with his amateurism.

This seems to be what prompted the NCAA to issue such a bizarre statement. UNC-Asheville guard Trae Bryant tweeted that he needed Wi-Fi. The tweet was eventually deleted and he also said the problem had been taken care of.
The NCAA seems to be getting with the times.
