Stan Van Gundy has been the coach of the Detroit Pistons for less than two seasons now, but he’s wasted no time cleaning house. Seriously, the only players who have survived SVG’s Detroit cleansing are Andre Drummond and Kentavius Caldwell-Pope — the guy isn’t joking around.
And Pistons fans are probably pleased with the job he’s done thus far, considering the team is threatening for a playoff spot and possess ample cap space heading into the offseason. That’s right, Pistons fans — the Joe Dumars mess is officially in the rearview!
If the Pistons do sneak into the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference, it would mark their first appearance since the 2008-09 season, where they were bounced in the first round. They would probably suffer the same fate if they faced the Cavs, but we’re guessing everyone will be happy just to be there.
The Pistons Cheer team, in particular, will certainly be pleased to get some postseason experience under their belt. It looks like this team could be a constant in the playoffs for years to come, so now’s the time to get accustomed to an atmosphere that matters.
