The 2016 NASCAR season is going to be the beginning of a new era of the sport as it will be without Jeff Gordon, one of the most popular drivers in history, for the first time since 1992 and Tony Stewart will miss the beginning of the season and will retire at the end of the year. The torch is being passed and the league is getting an entire roster of young guys hungry for a Sprint Cup.
Bill Elliott’s, NASCAR Hall of Fame member and long time fan favorite, son, Chase Elliott, is set to begin his career along with four other rookies with some amazing backgrounds. (Brian Scott, Jeffrey Earnhardt, Ryan Blaney, Chris Buescher)
Brian Scott is the grandson of Joe and Kathryn Albertson of the Albertson’s grocery stores. Jeffrey Earnhardt is the grandson of Dale Earnhardt Sr. making him an automatic fan favorite with racing blood in his veins. Chris Buescher’s cousin James Buescher is a NASCAR driver but Chris did not rise in the ranks from his ties to James, he did it old school and worked his way from the bottom on up to the big show. Ryan Blaney is the one and only son of Dave Blaney, long time NASCAR driver.
Those are just the rookies, there are more guys that are either young or just getting their feet wet in NASCAR. Michael Annett (3rd full season), Kyle Larson (3rd full season) , Ty Dillon (1st full season), Mike DiBenedetto (2nd full season), Josh Wise, Cole Whitt (3rd full season), and Robert Richardson Jr. are all about to move in and take the league over.
