NASCAR's Miss Coors Light Is Now Unemployed

It’s all over for the Miss Coors Light GirlĀ and NASCAR. Budget cuts and rebranding have taken the ladies, whose job included awarding the pole winner with a sticker for his/her car, out of business. That means 2012 Miss America USA Amanda MertzĀ is out of a job and she’s not taking it very well. She expressed that sadness Monday in a Facebook post about her Miss Coors Light career coming to an end.

There’s no easy way to say this & I can’t tell you how saddened I am to have to write this type of post but I feel like I owe everyone an answer when asked if I will be returning next year as MCL. In fact, that was the 2016 plan. I am sad to announce that Coors Light is going through a rebranding/budget cut phase & they had to make a last second decision, there will no longer be a Miss Coors Light program within the sport of NASCAR.
My heart is broken for the people who have been behind this program & put so much effort each & every weekend into making it such a respectable role within the sport. This year has been more than a dream come true, from meeting some of my best friends, getting to interview this level of talent, traveling around the U.S, to watching Jeff Gordon take his last ride in NASCAR. I’ll have these memories to cherish for the rest of my life.
However, this once dream job was taken away last minute and it now feels like a nightmare. As I’ve stressed, this wasn’t something we were prepared for so I am now out of a job.

Granted, Mertz only served one year as a Miss Coors Light girl. That’s just how much she seemed to love her job.
The Miss Coors Light position was started in 2010 and Mertz was just the second person to serve in the role.
