This one will probably bore most of you because you couldn’t care less about Toledo football and the troubles MAC teams have selling tickets to Tuesday night games. I tried my best to make it clear to fans that Matt Campbell, the 35-year-old head coach who is about to get multiple job offers in a few weeks, won’t have a reason to stick around the Rockets program if 15,000 show up to Tuesday’s huge game against Northern Illinois.
It’s going to be ugly. I don’t care if they were playing a novelty outdoor hockey in the Glass Bowl on Tuesday and Kenny Chesney was playing the pregame show. They’d still have a hard time selling 20,000-plus. I get it, people have to work, kids have to go to school, etc. Then you have students trying to be students. You have TV timeouts that turn the games into nearly four-hour marathons. Totally understand. Give me 18,500 of the craziest fans Toledo can find. That would be a miracle.
How do you get blue collar fans to show up to a Tuesday game — 8 p.m. kick to boot — in early November? That’s the great mystery in the MAC.
