Royals: Edinson Volquez Doesn't Know His Father Died Before World Series Start; ESPN Says He Knows

Prior to Edinson Volquez taking the mound for his start at Game 1 of the World Series, reports emerged that his father, Daniel Volquez, died in the Dominican Republic of heart disease.


 
ESPN’s Enrique Rojas reported that Volquez learned of the death while on his way to the ballpark:

Which conflicts with the Associated Press’ report that Volquez has no knowledge of the situation:

The person said Volquez was not aware of the passing of 63-year-old Daniel Volquez, who had been dealing with heart disease in the Dominican Republic. His son took the mound for his World Series debut as scheduled to a roar from the crowd inside Kauffman Stadium.
