Where did Jake Arrieta come from?
This guy turns 30 in March, he came over from the Orioles after posting a 20-25 record over 4 years and then goes 36-13 with the Cubs over 3 years. His ERA with Baltimore was 5.46. His ERA with the Cubs is 2.26. All I know is that Jake Arrieta pitched 9 innings last night and turned himself into at least a $100M man. Not bad for 3 1/2 hours of work. Win a huge playoff game and you get a massive contract. That’s how this works. James Shields will make $21M next season. Arrieta is headed for a contract that looks like that.
