On Thursday, the NY Post published a bombshell report about Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes attacking Knicks head coach Derek Fisher for courting his ex-wife, Gloria Govan.
The most interesting detail from the report — outside of Fisher boning his former teammate’s ex — was easily this part about Barnes driving 95 miles to “beat the sh*t out of him [Fisher]:”
But when Barnes learned that Fisher was at his former home with Gloria, he drove 95 miles to LA to “beat the s–t” out of Fisher, sources said.
“Derek was in Gloria’s back yard with about 10 people having a bonfire on Saturday,” said a source. “Derek’s separated from his wife and there’s a relationship with [Gloria].”
A day later we have some clarity via ESPN LA’s Ramona Shelburne… and it turns out Barnes’ furious 95-mile drive down the coast was more of quick 15-minute drive from another part of LA:
"I can’t believe people think I was some maniac driving 95 miles and listening to Tupac to go beat somebody up," Barnes said.

Barnes: "I live 15 minutes away and I was going over to check on my kids because they seemed uncomfortable. "

As far as Santa Barbara is concerned, Barnes, Govan and their kids were there earlier:
Barnes said he, his ex-wife and kids had driven together from Santa Barbara earlier in the day after the Grizzlies finished training camp

TMZ Sports also has some details about the Barnes and Fisher throw down:
Fisher stood up to Barnes and an argument broke out — the witness tells us Barnes threw a punch that hit Derek square in the mouth.
We’re told Derek fought back and “was holding his own” — until several people, including Gloria, rushed in to try to break it up.
But the fighting didn’t stop until one of Matt’s children came into the backyard and begged the men to stop fighting. We’re told that pretty much ended things.
