Willie Cauley-Stein Reportedly Not in the Best Shape of His Life

With NBA preseason officially in full swing, now is the time we usually hear about reports of players being in the best shape of their lives. However, that doesn’t look to be in the case in Sacramento where there are rumblings about the conditioning of rookie Willie Cauley-Stein.
According to CSN Bay Area’s James Han, Cauley-Stein had issues running up and down the court in training camp:

“He is going to open the season at 14 minutes a game, if he’s lucky. When you show up to camp and you can’t run up and down the court twice without being so winded you have to pull yourself off the court, then something’s wrong.”

Han also addressed the issue in a Twitter Q&A (via Sactown Royalty):

Probably not the news Kings fans want to hear about the guy they selected sixth overall in the NBA Draft, but hey, it’s not all bad.
If the Kings opt to go with that four-on-five defense strategy, Cauley-Stein could just play the cherrypicker role. The guy may not be able to run on the court, but it looks like he can still dunk:
