Max Scherzer Drops $5.2 Million On House With Carpet Around Indoor Pool

Max Scherzer will collect $17,142,000 for his efforts this season with the Washington Nationals. Then he’ll make $22,143,000 for three years. And then he’ll make a ton of money from 2019 all the way through 2028 due to deferred salary from the massive seven-year, $210M contract. Max turned 31 in July. He’ll be in his early 40s when the Nats are done paying him.
So you can’t blame the guy for blowing $5.2M of his new fortune on a Potomac River house that’ll probably need about $1M in upgrades to make it comfortable.
From the original listing:

Spectacular Contemporary with 3+ acres on the waterfront of the Potomac River in McLean. This incredible private setting boasts unbelievable sights and sounds of the river. Each room is designed to overlook and maximize your view of the water from every angle. This magnificent 4 level estate includes 4 Bedrooms, 4.5 Bathrooms, an indoor pool in the walk-out basement.

Look, let’s be honest here. That has to be the worst indoor pool room I’ve ever seen from a $5.2M house. That’s carpet, right? And that ceiling fan looks like it was being clearance’d at Lowe’s. The whole room needs gutted. I want all new flooring. I want modern lighting. I want a 100″ LED on the wall that features that dumb mosaic. The doors are garbage. Walls need color.
This place better look different when Max sells it and gets out of town 5-6 years from now.

Other highlights of Scherzer’s Potomac pad:

• No elevator — FAIL — MUST-INSTALL
• Water views, but it’s not like you’re going swimming – FAIL
• Only 680 sq. ft. of garage space — FAIL
5 miles from Whole Foods — not bad
Mortgage: Don’t worry, Max will be fine.
