Umpires are the absolute worst. They all have different variations of the strike zone, they make the wrong calls on the field (and post-replay), they antagonize players, they issue warnings like candy and they really just have zero accountability whatsoever after they eff games up. If that’s not bad enough, they’re now taking their awfulness next level by expanding into the souvenir game.
At last night’s Mets-Giants game, umpire Doug Eddings took it upon himself to take away a foul ball from a fan rocking a plaid shirt. Was it an awful shirt? Absolutely. But that doesn’t mean you just start taking balls away and toss them deeper into the crowd:
Kudos to that ball boy for righting an obvious wrong.
