Melanie Collins is sooooo close. She’s right there on the verge of getting that ESPN job I predicted she would get way back in 2008 when she was a bikini model and student at Penn State. The long road has taken her (not in the right order because I’ve lost track) from NBA TV, to some job co-hosting a sports web show with Sean Salisbury, to Yahoo, to CBS as a sideline reporter, to Golf Channel’s Big Break, to filling in for Michelle Beadle on Sportsnation, to testing today as Cari Champion’s possible replacement on First Take.
In other words, Melanie Collins is testing to get the biggest job of her career on a show that is a cash cow and morning/afternoon ratings giant for the World Wide Leader.
The bad news is that Skip and Screamin’ are on vacation so Melanie gets to test with Jorge Sedano and some dude who looks like a bloated Steve Harvey. There’s also some chick on the set that I’m not familiar with.
Those of you who weren’t around in the early days of BC probably don’t remember how big Collins was on the blog scene. She was a superstar thanks to numerous bikini photos from her Tempe12 modeling gig. She was also known for living with NHLer Scottie Upshall.
Champion is expected to start her new ESPN job in mid-July. Her last day at First Take was on Friday.
