There’s been a big debate this season on whether or not pitchers should be allowed to hit. Angels pitcher CJ Wilson strengthened both the pro and con side to the debate Thursday afternoon against the Diamondbacks.
In the top of the fifth inning, Wilson rocketed an Allen Webster pitch to right field, but instead of settling for a single, the lefty went for two. As you can see by Wilson’s slide attempt below, this was a terrible idea:

On the plus side, he somehow didn’t get hurt and ended up striking out nine batters over eight frames.
