A former Saint Joseph University softball player claims in a federal civil lawsuit filed this week in Philadelphia that she was subjected to hazing that included being given the name “Dirty Sanchez (also Queeffer, Queeffing Thighs)” and requiring her to perform sexual dances. There are also allegations that coach Terri Adams was aware of some of the rituals.
According to court documents obtained by Busted Coverage, “Jane Doe” says when recent revelations started to hit the media concerning the university and the program, she was retaliated against by “members of the team who made threatening comments to her, including threats that members of the team would rip her head off and shove a softball down her throat.”
Saint Joseph canceled the remainder of the softball season on May 1.
The allegations:
More allegations:
• Being forced in a group setting to place condoms on one or more bananas placed between her legs in the groin area;
• Being locked in a car until she drank a baby bottle of liquid comprised of various items from the kitchen cabinets, such as ketchup, mustard, hot sauce, etc.;
• When encountering any upperclassmen on the softball team, she was required to refer to them by designated nicknames and perform an act specific to each upperclassman. One particularly degrading act that Plaintiff recalls involved calling an upperclassman named by the nickname “Jersey Gem” and performing a sexually lewd dance referred to as a “Jersey Turnpike” in front of this upperclass member of the team. The term “JerseyTurnpike” refers to a sexually lewd act involving bending over ‘doggie style’ in front of another person and simulating intercourse;
• Being forced to ask and answer sexual questions and tell sexual stories. Plaintiff recalls being asked about her sexual orientation, what sexual positions she likes, what sexual acts she had performed, to identify persons with whom she’s been sexually intimate and being asked questions about pornography
• Being forced to dance to a compilation of music by the artist known as Lady Gaga which dance was recorded byteammates and posted on Snap Chat without Plaintiff’s permission.
Then, in February 2013, the Plaintiff refused to engage in activities, but watched as freshman teammates were allegedly hazed. That included:
- Being forced to simulate oral sex on wine bottles while video taped;
- Being forced to simulate manual sex over their clothes; and
- Being forced to pretend they were coach Terri Adams and simulate an orgasm.
And more allegations:
• Coach Adams started calling Plaintiff “Sippy” and/or “Sippy Shit in Pants” explaining that Plaintiff was worthless and was no better than “shit in pants.” Coach Adams called Plaintiff these demeaning and derogatory names in front of other members of the softball team, thereby humiliating, harassing and bullying Plaintiff.
• The upperclass members of the team forced a freshman to perform a “lap dance” on Plaintiff involved simulating sexual intercourse while seated on Plaintiff’s lap.
• Plaintiff was given the nick name “Dirty Sanchez.”
“Jane Doe,” who has now withdrawn from the university and gave up her scholarship, claims in the lawsuit that she’s suffered mentally and she fears for her safety. She’s seeking all available compensatory and punitive damages.
