Baseball fans often clamor about how unnecessarily long spring training is. However, people forget it’s not just the players who need to put in work, but the play-by-play guys too!
For instance, Mariners announcer Dave Sims had a bit of a brain fart calling today’s Royals-Mariners game. His gaff? Stating that Royals pitcher Ryan Madson, who hasn’t played in a regular season game since 2011, logged 32 saves for the Phillies last year.
As an Angels fan, I sure as hell know that isn’t true. The guy collected over $3 million from the club in 2013 and I’m pretty sure I never saw him in uniform.
Perhaps Dave’s normal research guy wasn’t available today?
