14 Craziest Weekly World News Wrestling Headlines

There was a time when wild headlines appeared on the pages of the Weekly World News instead of your Facebook feed. Now it’s called clickbait. 25 years ago, a headline about a Mongolian that wanted to destroy Hulk Hogan was just a headline. And you got like 250 wild headlines per issue to entertain you while you passed time switching from ‘A’ and ‘B’ on your cable box. Now you have a Facebook feed full of political clickbait that isn’t even funny. At least the WWN headline writers were brilliant with their clickbait.
The Weekly World News stopped printing in 2007. Weekly sales in 2006 were down to just 83,000 issues. Facebook opened to anyone with a valid email address on September 26, 2006. WWN was becoming a dinosaur. There was a new home for wild clickbait headlines. The WWN site still exists and there’s new content published when someone gets around to it.
Thankfully, the print editions were archived by Google and we can still go back to see the big stories of the early 1990s when wrestling consumption was high and garnered massive headlines on nearly a weekly basis.
