That’s new A’s third baseman Brett Lawrie hanging on pitcher Jesse Chavez’s truck in Arizona, presumably at their Spring Training facility in Mesa. I’m guessing that truck doesn’t get very good gas mileage. You can’t really blame Jesse, 31, for enjoying life a little bit with a military surplus truck. He will finally make over a million this season — $2,150,000 — after years of struggling through the minors and on one-year MLB deals.
The truck a Bobbed M35A2 from Boyce Equipment in Ogden, Utah. Base price for one of these beasts is $15,500…and there are add-on options. Camo painting like what you see on Chavez’s ride will run you $1,000. Air conditioning, which is a must-have, is $1,860. The options available total $23,886, which brings a fully loaded M35A2 to $39,386.
Chavez, who is battling for a spot in the A’s starting rotation, had a nice outing this week in his first Spring Training start of 2015. Then he went to the parking lot, got in his M35A2 and drove home. You know, just like the rest of us after a day of work.
