The wait for Holly Sonders to officially make her Fox Sports debut is nearly over. The former Golf Channel Morning Drive host told me today that she’s officially a Fox Sports employee and her first assignment starts “soon.” It’s…about…time. You might remember that it was announced in July that Holly, 27, was leaving her Golf Channel job for the inaugural season of golf on Fox where they’ll have the U.S. Open.
Joe Buck and Greg Norman will handle the booth; Brad Faxon, Steve Flesch will be in the towers; Sonders and Juli Inkster will handle on-course duties; Shane O’Donoghue, Corey Pavin will be your studio hosts.
To get the season rolling, Golf.com released its Most Beautiful Women in Golf post that included Sonders in her boots at Trump Bedminster in New Jersey. “We’re going to make golf fun. All the great shots, you’ll see them up close. You’ll feel like you are there,” she told the site.
Look, Fox hiring Holly Sonders to work golf tournaments is a game-changer. There will be the old guard who get mad that Holly is wearing all sorts of hot outfits and is all tanned. They’ll be mad that she’s having fun with the fans. That’s what’s wrong with golf: Without Tiger winning tournaments it’s a completely boring sport to the common viewer. It needs spiced up. The final round of the 2014 U.S. Open landed a 3.3 rating on NBC.
Can Holly Sonders save golf on television? We’ll soon find out.
