After being up 20 on Michigan State, Baylor allowed 21 unanswered Spartan points in the fourth quarter to blow their chance at a Cotton Bowl victory. The backbreaker for Baylor came with just over a minute left in the game, when Connor Cook hooked up with Keith Mumphery on a 10-yard touchdown to put the Spartans up 42-41.
This moment, however, doesn’t happen if State doesn’t block Baylor kicker Chris Callahan’s 43-yard field goal attempt on the previous possession. Those three points would have likely clinched the game for the Bears, putting them up by nine. Instead, it just set up the grand finale to this epic collapse and put Callahan in the crosshairs of Tony Lippett.
