If you were a professional athlete and had to trade away your jersey number to some weakling who really needed it, what would you ask for in return?
Oakland Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick, better known as the guy who walks up to “Careless Whisper,” found himself in that predicament when GM Billy Beane acquired Billy Butler in November.
Today, the two struck a deal for that coveted No. 16, which Reddick revealed on Twitter:
If you think about it, this is a pretty savvy deal Josh just pulled off. He needed a winch, and used this random opportunity to land one—saving himself from shelling out like $1000. Now he can use that money on something interesting.
However, I personally think it would have been worth a shot to ask for a case of Big Country’s barbecue sauce as a kicker.
Regardless, the swap easily qualifies as the best transaction the A’s have made this offseason.
