ESPN’s Michael Smith and Jemele Hill Discussed the Current State of Chivalry

Once upon a time, ESPN had a pretty informative show called “Numbers Never Lie,” which featured Charissa Thompson as the host and guests such as Aaron Schatz (Football Outsiders) and Matthew Berry (Fantasy Football Guru). The show was a breath of fresh air as it was analytically driven with factual arguments instead of some one-hour brouhaha on who can shout pointless dribble the loudest.
Unfortunately, ESPN realized the show was too informative and started infesting the show with former jocks who love talking about intangibles, creating yet another mind numbing debate show in their lineup. Eventually the show developed into the Michael Smith (Thompson’s co-host) and Jemele Hill session, and was rebranded as “His and Hers” in early November.
What hot topic did these two tackle on their Monday podcast? CHIVALRY! (Of course, inspired by the Saints fan who took a ball away from a Bengals fan.)

In the event that you are curious about what this discussion entailed, I got you. Granted, I only listened to like 15 minutes of it because no one in their right mind wants to listen to a topic about chivalry for 52 MINUTES.
What I learned:

  • Smith confessed he is “uncomfortable watching a woman reach for her wallet.” Why? Because he has always made money. (Baller)
  • The term “butt-nasty-daddy” was uttered.
  • Smith would have given the Bengals fan the ball—because he is a gentleman—but didn’t see an issue with what the Saints fan did.

Yeah…I’m going to go ahead and pour one out for the original “Numbers Never Lie” cast—and drink myself to oblivion for listening to a part of this podcast.
