George Will Has Chicago Cubs World Series Clause In Speaking Engagement Contract

George Will is 73 and will turn 74 in May. In case you didn’t know, the Champaign, Illinois native is a huge Cubs fan. You combine those two elements and you have a situation where George doesn’t have very many more years to see the Cubs pull off a miracle and play in a World Series. At this point, it seems like even the playoffs are out of the picture after finishing 73-89 this season.

But that hasn’t stopped Gdubs from having a clause in his Washington Speakers Bureau contract stating that he can cancel appearances if the Cubs are in the playoffs or the World Series. (Doesn’t $48,000 seem excessive to hear this guy ramble when you could hear him on TV do the same thing?)

Such an optimist.

Just appearing in the playoffs hasn’t happened since 2008 and the Cubs haven’t won a playoff game since 2003 against the Marlins. Remember that series? The bad news is that next year shouldn’t be any better for George — the Cubs are 45/1 to win the 2015 World Series.
