While the last few months of Derek Jeter’s career have been pretty embarrassing, you really have to be a moron to think his retirement isn’t a big loss for baseball. Jeter is the final real connection we have with baseball in the 20th century. Albert Pujols didn’t come around until 2001. Ichiro was also a 2001 guy. Jeter has been around so long that this is your final connection between Yankees that appeared on Seinfeld and 2014. The show has been off the air for 16 years.
Like it or not, we’re all getting older and time rolls on. It’s just weird that we’re about to close the book on our connection with baseball in 1995 and 2014. Puig was 5 when Jeter made his debut; Bryce Harper was 2 1/2.
