We’ve mentioned the Lehigh Valley (Pa.) IronPigs several times previously on BC. You might remember the gamification of peeing and their funeral and foam finger giveaways. The Phillies’ Triple-A franchise obviously embraces oddness to stay competitive in an area with a lot of sports options.
After a week of teasing with #smellthechange on social media, the IronPigs announced on Monday that the team will wear a steel-themed uniform for Friday home games, a bacon-themed uniform for Saturday home games and a liberty-themed uniform for Sunday home games.
Wait, bacon? Yes, bacon, lots of it, via the Morning Call:
The “Smell The Change” initiative is brought to life in the IronPigs brand-new bacon-themed Saturday ensemble, which includes a bacon strip logo transfixed to the cap, a fresh “Pigs” jersey design emblazoned across the chest as well as the first-of-its-kind bacon-style piping down both legs of the pants.
There is also a scratch n’ sniff bacon t-shirt available for purchase on the team’s MiLB page. The smell of the shirt does fade after 10-15 washings (or lickings).
If the IronPigs are also selling cups of bacon at the games, count us in for at least two Saturday games this season.
