The NHL is about to go dark. With many NHL players heading to the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, the skaters have just a few days left of action before the long break from Feb. 9-25.
That also means they have a limited time to get their shots in; fighting is rare in Olympic hockey.
During Monday night’s Penguins-Senators game, Ottawa’s Zack Smith threw down against Pittsburgh’s Robert Bortuzzo toward the end of the first period. As you can see in the video above, these guys were throwing hands. No bullshit.
Bortuzzo landed a big early punch, but Smith battled back. The Pens won the game, 2-1, but nearly a third of the HockeyFights.com voters thought the bout was a draw. Watch and see what you think.
FWIW – the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics are scheduled for Friday (7:30 p.m. ET on NBC). The first men’s hockey games are slated for Wed. Feb. 12.
