You know what’s rare? Big fires at baseball stadiums like what’s going on today at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
It’s not like Fifth Third, a 10,000 seat facility built in 1994, is some dumpy wooden box like ballparks built at the beginning of the 20th century.
This is where the Class-A Tigers play.
According to the local NBC affiliate:
The fire started at around 11 a.m. Firefighters evacuated within a half hour to go into defensive mode.
The roof started to collapse just before 12 p.m.
A fire official said the blaze started in one of the suites and that the sprinkler system failed.
