My dad and Andrew Luck have something in common: Both still use a flip phone. I’m headed to the Bama-Ole Miss game this weekend for our annual football trip and he’ll still be using that phone he got like six years ago. We started doing these trips in 2008 and he was using the same flip in L.A. when we watched Ohio State get drilled in the Coliseum.
Gets the job done, I guess. It’s not like my dad is going to start sending text messages to all his 59-year-old buddies. I’m pretty sure my dad has never responded to a text because he wouldn’t be able to figure out texting on a flip. He has no interest in that garbage. He didn’t stop wearing the flip on his hip until a couple years ago. He finally left 2001 and tore off the leather flip cover and put the phone in his pocket.
As for Luck, I like that he just keeps rolling along with his nerd way of life. Think of all the money he’s saved by not having a data package on that thing. The guy makes somewhere in the neighborhood of $5,527,000 a year so it makes sense to keep costs under control.
