Who Will Be The Next Alabama Football Coach? Favorites To Replace Saban

It is time for a new regime to take the reigns in Tuscaloosa, with Nick Saban set to retire as the Alabama football coach after 17 years of leading the Crimson Tide.

The news surfaced on Wednesday afternoon, and immediately sparked speculation about who could be Saban’s replacement.

Of course, for years there has been speculation that Clemson’s Dabo Swinney could be next in line for Alabama once Saban moved on. Unsurprisingly, he is among the favorites to land the job, but after a lackluster season for the Tigers, Swinney is not the favorite.

That honor, in the eyes of the oddsmakers, belongs to Oregon head coach Dan Lanning.

Before taking over at Oregon in 2022, Lanning was the defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach for the vaunted Georgia Bulldogs. In Lanning’s final year at Georgia, the Bulldogs finished the regular season undefeated and went on to beat the Crimson Tide in the national championship game.

Lanning served as a graduate assistant at Alabama in 2015 — where the Crimson Tide defeated Clemson in the national championship game.

Other favorites for the job include Lane Kiffin, Deion Sanders, and Washington’s Kalen DeBoer.

Who else could be in the mix?
