The bittersweet moment has finally arrived. College football Bowl season is the reason we watch the season. It’s the culmination of your team’s season and what the future looks like. Yes, some of us are more interested in the Music City Bowl than the College Football Playoff, but that’s just because we prefer sloppy football.

The 2022 Bowl season kicks off on Friday with two matchups on the slate. We have a top-25 matchup and two programs that earned a trip to the Bahamas. Most of their fans will end up saying something like, “Man, I could live here.” Of course, you could, Randy. Anyway, checkout out our preview and betting odds for day one of the Bowl season.

Miami (OH) vs. UAB (-11.5) O/U: 45.5

Inviting people from Miami, Ohio, and Birmingham, Alabama, to the Bahamas is a cruel joke to the residents of the respective cities. Pack your sunscreen, folks. The UAB program didn’t even exist just six years ago, and now they’re going bowling for the fifth time since their return.

The Blazers finished fourth in the C-USA with a 6-6 record, with head coach Bryant Vincent in his first year in the program. The Blazers are heavy favorites in this one, with most oddsmakers having them as 11.5-point favorites. With a win, the Blazers will finish with their sixth straight winning season.

Now onto the winningest program in MAC history, the Redhawks of Miami of Ohio. Before starting this article, the only thing I knew about the Redhawks was Ben Rothlisberger. Like UAB, the Redhawks finished the regular season at 6-6, with an identical conference record of 4-4.

The Redhawks continue to be a mirror of their opponent, as the team will be looking for their second straight bowl victory on Friday after winning the Frisco Football Classic Bowl last season against North Texas. Miami of Ohio is playing with house money. That’s just the way they want it.

#25.UTSA (-1.5) vs. 24. Troy O/U: 56.5

Duluth Trading Cure Bowl, 3:00 P.M. EST., ESPN

The main event of day one of the Bowl season is a showdown between two top 25 teams. The UTSA Roadrunners and the Troy Trojans. Both programs are on the rise, and the point spread in this one is near a pick ‘e m game. Both teams will be building toward their future, and a win in the Cure Bowl is the perfect foundation.

A 1-3 start ended up turning into a 10-game winning streak that culminated with UTSA winning the C-USA Conference Championship. The Roadrunners are looking for their second straight 12-win season but seeking their first-ever bowl victory. A lot is on the line for a program swiftly turning heads.

Just like the first matchup of the day, the Cure Bowl has many similarities between the teams competing. Troy had a 1-3 start before rattling off ten straight wins, ending with the team winning the Sun Belt Conference title. The Trojans earned their first trip to a bowl since 2018 under first-year coach John Sumrall.

If I’m not cursing this game by saying this, I expect the Cure Bowl to be an exciting game from beginning to end. I would even strongly debate hammering the over if I didn’t live in a lame state that doesn’t allow sports gambling. For those of you making a bet, always go big.
