The 2022 college football season is just around the corner and we are now getting a look at how teams are stacked up ahead of the new year. On Monday, August 8, the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll released its preseason top 25 to give us an early look at the landscape of the college football world.
As we have become used to seeing, the Alabama Crimson Tide once again sit atop the rankings with 54 of a possible 66 first-place votes. It is the seventh time in 13 years that the Crimson Tide are in the No. 1 spot entering the season.
The Ohio State Buckeyes enter the season at No. 2 with five first-place votes, while the defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs land at No. 3 with six first-place votes.
The Clemson Tigers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish round out the top five in the preseason poll.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll is that the No. 18 Texas Longhorns received the remaining first-place vote.
