New Jersey’s rapidly growing sports betting market is extending its reach into a professional hockey arena, even as it adds a seventh Atlantic City casino to the fold.
Bookmaker William Hill US said it plans to open a sports lounge Thursday night at Newark’s Prudential Center, where the NHL’s New Jersey Devils play.
The viewing center will feature large video screens and constantly updated odds on sporting events in case fans with mobile betting apps on their phones want to wager. But it can’t accept in-person cash bets; those are restricted to New Jersey casinos and racetracks.

Those of you who’ve been reading Screencaps for years know that I’ve been saying this is coming for a long time. I’ve said how great it would be to play craps and sorta watch a game. I’ve said how great it would be to have a baseball game going on in the background while playing blackjack. Don’t say I didn’t warn you that college football stadiums will eventually have hotels, restaurants, casinos all connected to the stadium. If I’m a MAC school, I attach a hotel to my stadium right now. I get use out of that stadium all the time. I have kids playing games on that field. The family staying in the hotel. Family eating at my restaurants.
Evolution of the sporting environment. Just a matter of time.
