Jose Fernandez Drills Umpire With 98 MPH Fastball

There was a scary moment during the first inning of today’s Tigers-Marlins game as home plate umpire Kerwin Danley was on the receiving end of 98 mph gas from Jose Fernandez.
As you can see from the video below, catcher J.T. Realmuto wasn’t able to get his glove up in time to catch the pitch, which ended up nailing Danley at the top of his helmet. It wasn’t a direct shot, but it was enough to stagger Danley and bring him to his knees:

Danley did stay in the game while Fernandez proceeded to do his thing and rack up 13 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings of work.
