That Might Be The Most Unnecessary Onside Kick In Tennessee High School Football History

I’ve seen unnecessary onside kicks and then I’ve witnessed what went down Friday in the Tennessee Class 1A state championship game between Greenback and Nashville Christian. Let me set the scene for you. Nashville Christian was up 42-14 with 1:22 left in the 4th quarter.
Game over, right? Not for Greenback. The coach called for an onside kick. You know, because there’s the outside chance you can drop four touchdowns in 1:22 and tie it up. Or you can be a man and take the L like a man and just kick the ball deep and let your reserves taste state championship action.
Not Greenback. Let’s create a situation where someone can get hurt in the last game of the season.

And it gets better.
Greenback players, the same players that just got blown out in the state title game are trying to get that hit featured on SportsCenter’s Top Ten highlights. @devindivine0528 is the kid trucking a Nashville Christian player who goes flipping by.
Here’s Devin showing some sportsmanship.
