The Washington Commanders managed to handle business against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3 without Jayden Daniels under center. But a concerning development regarding one of their top playmakers could derail their promising start.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport dropped a bombshell Wednesday, reporting that star receiver Terry McLaurin missed practice – but there’s something fishy about his injury designation compared to the specialist he visited.

Here’s where it gets interesting – McLaurin visited Dr. William Meyers, who specializes in “core muscles” issues. Yet Washington has him listed with a quad injury. The disconnect between the specialist’s expertise and the official injury designation raises serious questions.
Could we be looking at a sports hernia situation? There’s no concrete evidence yet, but it might explain McLaurin’s underwhelming production so far (just 10 catches for 149 yards and zero TDs through three games). If it is a hernia, we’re talking about a potential three-month recovery timeline – a devastating blow for Washington’s playoff hopes.
McLaurin’s Mystery Ailment Could Derail Commanders’ Season in Wide-Open NFC East
An extended absence for McLaurin would hit this team harder than most realize. The first three weeks have given fans plenty to be excited about, but losing your WR1 changes everything.
Marcus Mariota showed he can hold down the fort temporarily when Daniels needs a breather, as we saw against Vegas. But take away McLaurin from that equation? Now you’re looking at an offense that might struggle to outscore even the Giants.
This couldn’t come at a worse time for Washington. The NFC East is there for the taking with Philly looking vulnerable, Dallas dealing with their own injury crisis, and the Giants still figuring things out with their QB situation. The Commanders had a legitimate path to the postseason that now seems far less certain.
The division schedule looms large – especially that Week 7 matchup with Dallas. Daniels should be back by then, but if he’s throwing to a depleted receiving corps, it could be a season-defining game for all the wrong reasons. And don’t sleep on the Giants’ rematch in Week 15, where rookie Jaxson Dart might be hitting his stride just in time to play spoiler.
For now, the entire DMV is holding its collective breath, hoping McLaurin’s issue is actually just the quad strain listed on the injury report. If it’s something more serious in that core area – which seems increasingly likely given the specialist visit – we could be looking at a very different second half of the season than what Commanders fans envisioned after their hot start.
