UFC Vegas 77 Results: Mayra Bueno Silva Scores Upset With Ninja Choke

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned this weekend with UFC Vegas 77 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The event was headlined by a showdown between top 10 women’s bantamweight contenders Mayra Bueno Silva and former champion Holly Holm. Holm (15-6) was looking to pick up her second win in a row and her second in 2023, while Bueno Silva (10-2-1) entered the bout on a three-fight winning streak that includes consecutive submission wins.

In the co-main event, welterweights Jack Della Maddalena and Bassil Hafez went head-to-head.

When it was all said and done, Bueno Silva came away as one of the night’s winners after scoring an upset win over the champion less than one minute into the second round. Holm had been using her size and had biggest been aggressively pushing Bueno Silva against the cage, but a slight adjustment from “Sheetara” allowed her to counter Holm’s pressure with a slick ninja choke that forced the former champ to tap out.

With the win, Bueno Silva puts herself in the mix for the vacant bantamweight title bout.

In the co-main event, Maddelena overcame some early pressure from Hafez to earn a unanimous decision win.

Other big wins on the night came from 21-year-old Francisco Prado, “The Iron Turtle” Junyong Park, Norma Dumont, and Nazim Sadykhov.
