The life of a Cincinnati Reds fan can often seem like a dark existence. A team with ownership that believes in selling away great assets to continually build on a future that never seems to pan out. So goes the life and death of a small market team that is afraid to dream. However, amid their latest rebuild, the Reds have seemingly stumbled into a young roster with promising talent. On Tuesday, the team called up their top prospect Elly De La Cruz. A moment fans of the Cincinnati franchise have long waited for. A night that ended with a walk-off Reds victory will long be remembered for more than just that.

In his first plate appearance, De La Cruz was showered in cheers from those in attendance. The at-bat ended with the phenom drawing a walk from a Dodgers starting pitcher who is on the short list of Cy Young candidates in Tony Gonsolin. However, it was his second plate appearance that really juiced up the crowd at Great American Ball Park. De La Cruz hit an absolute rope to the gap in right-center. The ball left his bat at 112 mph. According to the broadcast, it was announced that the hit was the hardest hit ball from any player on the Reds this season. A much-anticipated sight for fans looking for a big bat in the lineup.

There has been much to celebrate in Cincinnati for quite some time. However, it seems as though the tides are changing. A team that has seemingly struck gold on many prospects could soon reap the rewards of playing the long game. The fans of Cincinnati deserve nights like Tuesday. A night that also ended with a clutch at-bat from another prized rookie in, Matt McLain. Of course, the growing pains will come. Baseball is a long season full of ups and downs. However, something is brewing in Cincinnati. A town that has long been starving to see baseball success again may soon not have to wait that much longer. All hail the new era of Cincinnati Reds baseball!
