Fans who were excited to watch some Formula One this weekend will have to wait to see the drivers back in action.

On Wednesday, May 17, Formula One announced that it has canceled the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy due to severe flooding in the region.

Due to the heavy rainfall in the area this week, flooding has resulted in at least eight deaths and has led to forced evacuations.

“The Formula 1 community wants to send its thoughts to the people and communities affected by the recent events in the Emilia-Romagna region,” F1 said in a statement. “We also want to pay tribute to the work of the emergency services who are doing everything they can to help those in need.

“It would not be right to put further pressure on the local authorities and emergency services at this difficult time.”

While there is a chance that the race could be rescheduled for later in the season, there is no guarantee that it will be made up.

Up next on the Formula One schedule is the Monaco Grand Prix at Circuit de Monaco which is scheduled for Sunday, May 28 on ESPN. Coverage will begin at 9:00 a.m. ET.
