Liberty Star Sabrina Ionescu Rookie Card Sells As Most Expensive WNBA Card Ever

Sabrina Ionescu is making history once again.

Over the weekend, the New York Liberty star’s 2020 Panini Prizm WNBA Black Gold rookie card sold at an auction brokered by PWCC and fetched five figures. The card — which sold for $10,800 — becomes the most expensive WNBA card ever sold. It was graded a Gem Mint 10.

According to PWCC, it is the first time that a WNBA card sold for five figures.

What makes the card so special? There are only five in existence.

The New York Liberty have high hopes going into the 2023 season after signing high-profile free agents Breanna Stewart and Courtney Vandersloot. The signings made the Liberty one of the favorites to win the WNBA title.

“The table is set for one of the most exciting WNBA seasons to date and Ionescu is right at the forefront,” PWCC exec Jesse Craig said, via TMZ Sports. “Collectors are anticipating that energy and excitement and looking to buy premier Ionescu cards. We’re entering an interesting phase here where supply for these high-end cards won’t be able to match the demand.”

Ionescu was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft out of Oregon and has averaged 15 points, 6.4 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game since entering the league.
