As we get closer to the end of the calendar year, many of us like to reflect on what has happened in our lives since January. If you’re reading this, that probably means that sports are a focal point of your life. This also means you’ve probably listened to a lot of sports talk. Here are the top sports personalities of 2022.
10. Robert Griffin III

— Barstool Sports (@barstoolsports) September 3, 2022
RG3 will for sure rise up my list in 2023, but his calls during this college football season were legendary. “It’s an Orgy in the endzone” Should go down in history as one of the greatest calls in college football history. I’m now hearing RG3 said something inappropriate on TV last night. My rankings are final, but this will hurt his chances for next year.
9. Ryan Fitzpatrick
I appreciate the creativity but Ryan Fitzpatrick’s fit is atrocious pic.twitter.com/6uR5NsZqpa

He has Harvard intelligence, he has athletic ability, and he has style. Ryan Fitzpatrick would be the perfect professional wrestling heel, but instead, the bearded wonder has been the delight of the Amazon Prime Thursday Night Football broadcast.
8. Paige Spiranac

— Paige Spiranac (@PaigeSpiranac) December 8, 2022
Folks, my words are down here. Paige Spiranac has risen high among the ranks of sports personalities for her… golf takes? Yes, golf takes. Not only is she a smoke show, but Spiranac knows the game of golf inside and out. She’s not a moron. She knows why some search her name. However, the next time you go down that rabbit hole, turn the audio up on those videos. You may learn how to fix your swing.
7. Mike Golic Jr.

— Mike Golic Jr (@mikegolicjr) December 12, 2022
From one beauty to another, Mike Golic Jr. has carved out his own sports media legacy that doesn’t leave him in the shadows of his legendary father. Golic Jr.’s Twitter perfectly encapsulates what it’s like to be a Swifty living in a non-Swifty world.
6. Stu Feiner
This could be the greatest thing ever recorded. pic.twitter.com/lyg2LktW6G
— Stuart Feiner (@StuartFeiner) November 19, 2020
Barstool Sports is the home of a plethora of sports personalities. None bolder, louder, or more loved than Stu Feiner. Whether it’s a video of him yelling about getting his house remodeled or a video of the most calories a human can eat for lunch, Stu is what’s best for business.
5. Kendrick Perkins
I’m convinced that Tyus Jones is a Starting PG in this League!!!! That man is a Floor General , Leader and a BUCKET!!! Carry the hell on…
— Kendrick Perkins (@KendrickPerkins) December 13, 2022
In my opinion, the most underrated show on sports television is NBA Today. Malika, Richard, Chiney, and Big Perk himself are can’t miss TV. Carry the hell on has now entered my daily vocabulary, and I’m better for it. Perkins is becoming a star for the Worldwide Leader in Sports.
4. Dan Orlovsky & Ryan Clark

Maybe I’m cheating by putting them as a duo, but Dan Orlovsky and Ryan Clark are the best personalities in sports when it comes to football talk. Orlovsky and Clark can easily be the Mike & Mike of their generation or the greatest OC and DC combo for a team looking to make statement hires. It’s hard for a duo to both be Batman, so I’ll say Dan is Robin.
3. Taylor Rooks
"There are times, and it's not often but — we've done 137 episodes on The Old Man and the Three — I've made 5 or 6 edits without telling the guest I was gonna make these edits because I felt like I had to protect them a little bit… "

— 𝙏𝙖𝙡𝙠𝙞𝙣’ 𝙉𝘽𝘼 (@_Talkin_NBA) December 12, 2022
Her Twitter bio says it all, “Bleacher Report. Turner Sports. Thursday Night Football. The game is the game.” Taylor Rooks is somehow everywhere at all times. A killer podcast and being a sideline reporter for Amazon’s Thursday Night Football. Rooks’s rise in the sports media world is based on constant work. And folks like Israel Adesanya saying the most outrageous things on her show.
2. Pat McAfee
2022 was College GameDay's most-watched regular season ever — averaging 2.1 million viewers per broadcast on ESPN. pic.twitter.com/tTDrjeS68F
— Front Office Sports (@FOS) December 12, 2022
If you were to make a list of sports personalities that had a match at Wrestlemania, host of one of the top sports podcasts in the country, and co-host of the most popular college football pre-game show, the list would be one of one. Pat McAfee has taken over the world, and we’re all enjoying the ride.
1. Grant Wahl
NEW POD: @ChrisWittyngham and I break down the World Cup knockout rounds, including the chalky results pre-Morocco, Brazil's inspiring night & Mbappé taking over the Golden Boot race.

The World Cup piqued my soccer interest this season. So, in the buildup for Team USA’s first match, I wanted to read more about the team. I was introduced to the writings of Grant Wahl. Wahl created soccer posts that even soccer dummies like myself could understand.
I subscribed to his Substack and was emerging into the soccer world. Wahl’s recent passing was a shock to everyone. It felt like someone was gone that I had just met, even though we had never met. While colleagues and fans of Wahl’s work have been celebrating his life, one word has been said in most posts. That word is great. Rest in peace, Grant Wahl.
