Here’s How The UFC’s First MMA Event In VR Looked In The Metaverse (VIDEO)

The UFC entered a partnership with Meta to bring live MMA events to VR through Meta’s Horizon Worlds app which is available on the Meta Quest 2 headset. On Friday, LFA 144 on UFC Fight Pass became the first-ever live MMA event in the metaverse and now we are getting a look at how it turned out.

Twitter user Grabaka_Hitman, who often shares MMA highlights from around the world, shared a video he captured from his VR headset to give everyone a look at how the 180-degree, cageside view came to life in the VR world.

If I’m being completely honest, it looks way cooler than I could have ever imagined.

Here is a walk into the arena, followed by some live action.

Another video shows just how close to the action you can get during the celebrations.

Of course, just like in real life, there are some complications when it comes to having a cageside seat, with the structure of the Octagon sometimes blocking your view. But the best part is, thanks to the 180-degree view, you can look away from the action and up to the video board to see what you are missing.

The “immersive environment” in Meta Horizon Worlds also allows fans to speak with other fans in real time “while enjoying unprecedented VR views of all the thrilling action in the Octagon, including strikes, takedowns, grappling, and more.”

UFC Fight Pass plans to offer similar VR experiences for select combat sports events in the future.

“We are excited to offer an unprecedented level of engagement for FIGHT PASS subscribers and MMA fans around the world by producing a live MMA event in virtual reality,” UFC Fight Pass Vice President and General Manager Crowley Sullivan said in a statement. “With Meta providing the VR platform and YBVR lending their production expertise, we’re confident this will be a great experience for fight fans.”
