Rarely do I see an injury report bad enough to make me cringe, but there was an exception today while reading about the groin issue Dodgers lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu suffered Wednesday night against the Diamondbacks. The injury was initially described as a groin strain, which doesn’t sound like the worst thing in the world, but an update provided by Dodgers beat writers revealed much worse — Ryu tore muscle off the bone.
The strain in Hyun-Jin Ryu’s groin was severe. He tore the muscle off the bone, Dave Roberts said.

Hyun-Jin Ryu’s groin muscle tore off the bone. Dave Roberts described it as traumatic and “pretty dramatic.” So.

Sadly Ryu was accurate when he told media postgame that this groin injury was worse than the one he suffered prior (via ESPN):
“It doesn’t feel good. It was the last pitch that probably got me,” Ryu said through an interpreter after the game. “It seems to be worse than the one that I had in the past.”
The Athletic’s Pedro Moura tweets Ryu will be out until the second half of the season. The good news for Dodgers fans? They get to see more of top prospect Walker Buehler in the meantime. He is ranked No. 13 in Baseball America’s Top 100 prospects list.
This is the second-worst injury the Dodgers have dealt with this week. You’ve probably heard shortstop Corey Seager is randomly out for the year so he can have Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. It’s been that kind of season for the Dodgers thus far.
