At this point, it’s hard to keep track of all the times Aldon Smith has been arrested. It’s been twice now in a month’s span, along with god knows how many other times over the last 5 years or so. His story has been really, really sad and yesterday it somehow got sadder.
You probably saw reports last Friday that he was arrested once again, not related to the domestic violence arrest from March. There were little details as to why, but yesterday we finally got some answers. Already out on bail from the DV incident, he showed up to the San Francisco sheriff’s office to get fitted for a court-ordered alcohol monitor with a BAC of .40. .40!
Most of you reading this would be dead with a BAC that high.
SF Chronicle:
He arrived at the sheriff’s department Friday evening to be fitted for the monitors, but he was extremely intoxicated, Assistant District Attorney Courtney Burris said at a brief court hearing Wednesday.
While at the sheriff’s department, Smith’s blood alcohol content rose slightly to 0.41, Burris said. He was taken into custody for violating a court order, and remains in custody on $500,000 bail.
Burris said the incident was “evidence of a severe alcohol issue” for Smith and recommended he be taken to a residential alcohol rehab facility for treatment.
Most of you probably understand that a .40 BAC is insanely high. It’s just another level of drunk that only someone with a tolerance to the moon could handle without being sent to an early grave.
This guy Evan Sernoffsky put it into perspective pretty nicely.
Aldon Smith had blood alcohol level of .40 when he went into SF sheriff’s department for ankle monitoring on Fri. He was immediately taken into custody. Smith appeared briefly in court today. He’s still in jail custody

According to many experts, .40 BAC is at the “onset of coma, likelihood of death” level https://t.co/dpLObFzX7A

The good news, if there is any, is that at least he didn’t drive to the sheriff’s office rocking a .40. The bad news is that when you reach “likelihood of death” levels of drunk at your court-ordered alcohol monitor fitting, it’s time to lock yourself away for a very long time in jail/rehab.
Just a reminder…the guy was an animal on the football field
Didn’t realize Aldon had 42 sacks in his first 43 games. That has to be some type of record or close to one. Sad decline for a talented fella.
