Community College Football Player Has Been Arrested For Punching A Referee In The Face

If you watched Last Chance U on Netlfix, you know that these community college football games can get pretty rowdy. Lots of trash talking, lots of skirmishes, and maybe even a full blown fight or two.
This fight didn’t take place at EMCC, but rather at Mt. San Antonio College in California, and really it wasn’t even a fight. One punch, not to a player, but to a ref.

The player was Bernard Schirmer, who looked to be jawing with another player before the ref stepped in. Eventually, he had enough and decked the ref right on the field. Out cold.
Early this morning, Schirmer was arrested.

Pretty wild and something I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. ABC News has some more details:

Bernard Schirmer was immediately ejected from the community college game and, upon review of the footage, arrested on suspicion of battery. He was then taken to Ventura County jail, Sgt. Mike Pallotto of the Ventura College Police Department told the newspaper.
The incident occurred in the third quarter of Ventura College’s 34-29 win.?Police say the official, whose name was not released, had broken up an argument between players and was struck while walking Schirmer back to his huddle.

Striking an official is punishable by a five-year ban, the Ventura County Star reported, citing?California Community College Athletic Association bylaws.
