33-year-old Dutch cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten looked to be on her way to her first Olympic gold medal during today’s women’s road race, but unfortunately things took a turn for the worst.
As you can see below, van Vleuten was traveling downhill when she suddenly lost control of her bike and flew into the pavement:

Van Vleuten might’ve lost a chance at gold, but early reports indicate that she is okay and on her way to the hospital:
