Justin Verlander is 52-42 since 2012, the year he appeared in a MLB 2K12 commercial with Kate Upton & started dating her soon after. That’s not bad if you’re not worried that Verlander’s made roughly $90 million over that period in base salary. There was a period in 2014 when I was concerned that Upton was killing his career. Now they’re engaged and Verlander’s still due $112 over the next four seasons.
Verlander will have career earnings of $226 million by the time he’s 36 in 2019. I think these two will be fine with money during their marriage.
E! got the exclusive statement Monday from Upton:
“I’m really excited, he asked me right before season started so we’ve been keeping it on the down low for quite a while,” she told E! News exclusively. “So I’m excited to finally be able to share it with the world!”
…
“For us, we always try and work on our communication,” she said. “We’re very open with one another and we’re each others best friends. He’s definitely my best friend, so I think that helps a lot.”
Verlander finished the 2012 with a 2.64 ERA. It hasn’t been lower than 3.38 (20 starts in 2015) since. Still, he got the money, the SI swimsuit model and he’s still just 33. Guy is living the life.
