Bills Mafia Antics Concern Team Executives

During NFL season, the sports blogosphere pretty much has their eyes peeled for one thing: Bills Mafia. Body slams through tables, fires, puking, mooning, public sex — there’s really nothing they consider out of bounds when it comes to tailgating.

But while it’s fun for us, it sounds like team officials have become wary of this subset. Team president Russ Brandon is particularly peeved about the behavior of Bills Mafia representing the entire fanbase (via NewYorkUpstate.com):

Well it’s never positive when you see stuff like that because it doesn’t reflect the fan behavior of 98 percent of the people in the building, but that’s the unfortunate part of the society we live in with technology and so on and so forth.
Yes, it is disappointing when you see that because that becomes the perception. But what’s nice to know is you see it in your surveying, and in your data, and when we get tremendous notes and letters from fans about what a great experience they had.

The report goes on to state that the team hired 150 additional police officers a couple years ago to keep an eye out for shenanigans. And for the most part, Brandon thinks their efforts have mostly worked despite the steady stream of amateur wrestling moves that hit social media during the fall:

“We hired an additional 150 uniformed officers a few years ago, and they’ve been outstanding. I think when people see a uniformed presence at the facility, there’s that art and balance of making sure that people are having a great time but not going over the line. We have one of the best people in the business in Andy Major. There’s nothing more important on game day than safety. That’s our No. 1 focus.”

Suffice it to say, Bills Mafia laughs in the face of safety.
