A couple weeks ago, Athletics outfielder Billy Burns fouled off a Jake Peavy pitch that ended up bouncing in the batter’s box before hitting him in the groin area. Groin shots seem to occur fairly often, but Burns actually ended up missing a game due to a “testicular contusion.” Cups can only do so much, apparently.
Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias learned that the hard way Wednesday, when he fouled a Johnny Cueto offering right into the jewels:
Jose Iglesias bangs a foul ball off the flag pole. His…flag pole. Ouch man.

Is it wrong that I don’t feel bad? Obviously I wish for zero groin pain on most men, except maybe Roger Goodell, but that Cueto pitch is up near the letters and running in. You swing at that pitch at your volition and live with the consequences, which in this case is a violent cup check.
