The 2023 World Series is set! After a pair of do-or-die Game 7’s in the ALCS and NLCS, we have our two teams that will be competing for The Commissioner’s Trophy.
All of the action will begin with Game 1 on Friday, October 27.
Representing the ALCS in the World Series is the Texas Rangers, who defeated the defending World Series champion Houston Astros in a wild seven-game series. The Rangers clinched the AL pennant thanks to two blowout wins on the Asros home turf in Game 6 and Game 7.
In the NLCS, the Arizona Diamondbacks were also able to win Game 6 and Game 7 on the road, stunning the Philadelphia Phillies to earn their second pennant in franchise history. It is Arizona’s first NL pennant since 2001.
But who do the people think will win?
The folks at BetOnline.ag analyzed geo-tagged keyword association data over the past four days, tracking key phrases, hashtags, and team names to determine who each state thought would be this year’s champion
For example, tweets with #GoAndTakeIt (Rangers) or #EmbraceTheChaos (Diamondbacks), were used in the survey. It ran all of those tweets through a geo-tracking program that showed which state each post came from. The team most associated with those keywords and phrases in each state then “won” that respective state.
More than 100,000 tweets were tracked for the study.
When it was all said and done, the Texas Rangers had a 32 to 18 state edge. The Rangers have never won a World Series in franchise history, and eliminating the hated Houston Astros in the ALCS certainly helps.
