Former NFL star Plaxico Burress has some advice for Ja Morant after the Memphis Grizzlies star’s IG Live gun incident which led to his indefinite time away from the team.
Burress accidentally shot himself in an infamous incident in a New York City nightclub. Burress was not licensed to carry a gun in New York City, so he was charged with criminal possession of a handgun. Burress accepted a plea deal but had to spend two years in prison which effectively ended his NFL career.
The incident happened after Burress had caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLII to lift the Giants to victory over the then-undefeated New England Patriots.
So if anyone can have good advice for Morant, it is someone like Burress who was riding high in his career before it all came crashing down. During an appearance on The Carton Show on Tuesday, Burress offered up advice to Morant, urging the 23-year-old to learn from him and make better decisions moving forward before it is too late.

“If you can’t learn anything, learn from me,” Burress said. “Make better decisions because you really don’t want for him to have that label being that he’s so young. He has the opportunity to be the face of the NBA. He’s that great of a player.
“You want to see him mature as a person as his game is getting better, and I think that all comes with time and being around the right people… He made a mistake.”
Burress attempted to make a comeback after his jail stint, but he was never the same. He returned with the New York Jets before finishing his career off with a second stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers before ultimately retiring.
If Morant can learn from Burress, he can get things back on the right track before throwing away the prime of his career and making even bigger, potentially more devastating mistakes in the future.
